The 2012 political campaigns studiously avoid the subject of Mrs. Romney's MS, and I don't think that's accidental: There are serious reasons to question the impact her health could have on Mr. Romney and his work, should he become president. The First Lady is no longer just window dressing for the president, and Ann Romney has already had health setbacks from the campaign stress. This is only the beginning.

As a person who is within a few years of the Romneys' ages and who also has an autoimmune disease, my questions come from personal experience and in-depth knowledge of the stress caused on work and relationships. Do you really think it wouldn't have a serious impact? If so, that's a sad testament to marriage. On the other hand, even if that's true, there are other reasons to be concerned.
