Where To Find Free Images For Your Blog Posts

Adding images to your blog posts can make a huge impact. Pictures (for the most part) are inviting and they add fun and excitement to your posts. As both a blogger and a reader of blogs you are sure to know positive the impact of using images in your blog posts can be. It's even a great break once in a while to write a post that has nothing but images in it.

While we know that using images in your blog posts is beneficial we don't always know where to find images. Thankfully, there are plenty of sites that offer free images that can be used on blogs and websites.

How does this work? Well photographers submit their work and are either paid through add revenue, paypal donations, or simply just to get their name out there. These sites are a blessing for bloggers who are trying to find high quality royalty free stock images!

VERY IMPORTANT: Though the following sites offer free images, most have terms please read FULL TOU before using images.  The terms usually require you to give credit to the photographer. As a designer myself I 100% believe that you should ALWAYS give credit where credit is due. If images have a copyright and are not for commercial use please do not use them.

SXC.hu- This is a GREAT site to find all types of images. They have almost 400,000 images to choose from. You have to sign up but it's free and really easy to use. You can even create "lightboxes" which are basically categories of images you like so you can store some for later use when browsing all their great images.

Flickr- Flickrs Creative Commons has millions of images. ALL require attribution, so you must give credit to the user. Flickr users can opt to offer their images under a creative commons license. For the full terms and understanding which images can be used and how check out this page. You can also use Compfight to find Flickr images available under Creative Commons.

Free Pixels- Another great site. Tons of images to choose from and you don't have to sign up just visit the site and download the images you like.

MorgueFile- This image site offers images that do not require attribution as well as some that do. They have a wide selection and you do not have to sign up to download images.

Pinterest- Now there are a few rules when finding images on Pinterest, their terms of use are pretty long. I know you can't post images there that are trademarked so if you find images that are trademarked I wouldn't use them. However, the truth is Pinterest is huge right now and many people pull images from it to put on their blogs. All images on Pinterest link back to the site they came from, so usually this give the person who "took" the image credit. So if you use Pinterest images link back to where the image came from or your Pinterest account where the image can then be clicked on to be brought back to the original site. Pinterest has tons of GREAT images and wonderful quotes, LOVE this site!

So these are just a few of the best sites to find images for your blogs. If you are not familiar with attribution (giving credit) you can either do it under the image "Image by:...." or at the bottom of your post: Image credits: List Names and with both link back to where you got the image. Another way is to simply link the image itself back to where you got it but if terms state attribution required you should list the name.

Do you know of any other great sites to find free images for you blog? We would love to hear about them. Leave a comment here or visit our discussion on where to find images for blog posts!

I recommend everybody consider using Zemanta...personally I think it is the best possible blog support system for images...once you download free...it loads automatically when you begin your post and as you type, potential pictures start appearing! You can refine/search as well...Zemanta also pulls up related articles across the internet and allows you to share your blog through their software... I use Blogger so I don't know what other blog providers can connect, but I highly recommend you try to get it loaded/connected to your blog...even if you do go other places for pics...

123.rf has some free images as well as ones you pay for. I use them a lot! They do have a limit, but it's a really high number!

Thanks, Emily .  I need free photos and lots of them for my blog posts on decorating.  Searching for pictures to explain my points takes me the longest time.
