Boiling a lobster is not as hard as you might think. If you can boil a pot of water, then you can cook a live lobster! Follow these easy steps and you too will be enjoying some Sweet Maine Lobster on your dinner (or lunch!) plate!

It's important that you begin with a live lobster. If the lobster is already dead, it may not cook properly.  Always make sure the lobster is alive and kicking.  I always purchase my Maine lobster only on the day I plan to cook it.

Pick up Lobster and quickly place head first in boiling water.
(Looking for a more humane way to send your lobster off to
that great ocean in the sky? There are two humane methods recognized by the
Geneva Convention,

Cover, and boil for 15 minutes or as guided on the chart below.

Lobster Weight

Cooking Time
1 - 1 ¼ lb. 12 - 15 minutes
1 ¼ - 2 lb. 15 - 20 minutes
2-3 lb. 20 - 25 minutes
3-6 lb. 25 - 28 minutes

The lobster shells will be bright red & the the tails will be curled when they are done.
The lobster is done when it turns red

 This Lobster is DONE!

While the lobsters cook, you can make the lemon butter!

  1. Heat the butter in a small pot over low heat.
  2. Warm it up gently so the milk solids begin to cook and sink to the bottom of the pot.
  3. Keep a close watch because once the milk solids collect and fall, they burn really easily.
  4. Strain the clear butter into a small serving cup
leaving the solids behind, and give a squeeze of lemon juice.

  • 1 Large hot dog roll
  • Drawn butter
  • Lobster bib
  • Hearty appetite

This is not your ordinary lobster roll, no mayonnaise, no lettuce, no onion or celery, no fillers at all.
All you need is a fork to dip the pieces of lobster into the drawn butter until you get the lobster down to size of the hot dog roll... pure heaven!
