42 “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
When Jesus said this before facing crucifixion He meant it. How many times have I said it, thought I meant it, but then am asked to do something that is somewhat “inconvenient” for me suddenly here come the excuses!
I am not Catholic, but Mother Teresa is a definite role model for me! I think a great deal about how she poured her life out in serving others. I watched the movie about her life’s story and the part I remember most is when the reporter who was doing a story on her had a sick man throw up on his very expensive name brand shoes. She handed him a pan to help her! I think that is when I admired her most. She never ran from hard things, but she ran to them!
I have prayed for the Lord to make me more like Mother Teresa. I always think if she could do it, and she set the perfect example of walking in the love of Christ, I can certainly do it! I even think sometimes, “What would Mother Teresa have done in a situation like this?” Yes, I admire her example that much! I am sincere at the time. Then the test of stamina and perseverance comes. I am asked to bring candy for the Fall Festival for the children. I pause and think, “But that means I have to get out of my jammies and I wanted to watch the “Rawhide” marathon!” Or, I will be asked to cook something (this is the real test) and I think, “Now, I have to go to the store AND cook AND deliver it!”
I am very sure Mother Teresa NEVER said any of these selfish things! Oh, I throw my hands to the air and say, “God send me to the nations! Preferably through a cruise! But, if not, then just send me with air conditioning, whatever mode of transportation You choose! I don’t care if I have to go through persecution, I am willing to suffer for You!“ just to pass the laundry hamper and think, “Oh, just looking at those clothes makes me feel tired all over!” “Oh, Father I am more than willing to teach a class, but make it adults, I can’t handle that nursery!” I can think of more but I don’t know if this post could handle them all!
Don’t you know God would be so much more pleased if we said, “Really, I surrender all, EVEN if it means the nursery!” That is when you know you mean business! Jesus didn’t make excuses and neither should I! I need to realize whatever the assignment, Jesus trusted me enough to be able to do it and thought I was perfect for the job, therefore, I CAN DO IT! To be trusted by the Saviour of the Universe! What an honor and a privilege to say yes to whatever He ask of us!!
Maybe what God has asked you to do intimidates you. He would not have chosen you if you couldn’t do it! That would make Him a cruel God and He is love through and through! He knows what you are made of! He knows you better than you know yourself. Don’t just trust Him with your soul, trust Him with the call He has on your life, too! It won’t be as hard as you think! Step up and know you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!
Blessings to you in abundance, precious reader! May the Lord lead you today as you make a difference for Him! I will see you soon!
