What Did Your Election Behavior Teach Your Children?

Today is a new day.  It is not yesterday, and it is not tomorrow.  This election

had friends, neighbors, coworkers, family, religions, bloggers, the entire

country divided.  There were mean-spirited arguments from both sides just as

there were calm disagreements from both sides.  There was mud-slinging and there

was praise.  And there were the children of this country that witnessed it

all.

Children are impressionable, they do as they see and they say what…

Talking to Your Child About the Aurora Tragedy

The unthinkable happened in Aurora, Colorado, in the early morning hours of July 20. This is a tragedy that may have hit closer to home for children, as it involved a movie (The Dark Knight Rises) that many of them planned to see. It’s a movie based on a beloved comic-book character, one devoted to stopping the sort of madness that…

Don't Blame Me!

We went to the boys' dentist today for a cleaning, which isn't nearly as traumatic as it used to be for me them.  One of them smashed his little mouth during a fall a few years ago and had to see the dentist for that, which I'm sure is part of the reason he still gets anxious when it's time to go.  And the other one had a cavity (gasp!) filled which, turns out, wasn't nearly as fun as I made it out to be.  I know, weird, right?

So while they are doing better, it's all still a bit… Continue

Now and Then and Later

The Zen philosophy of life is to live in the moment. Don’t look behind you, don’t look ahead – just exist in the now, this very minute, where you stand, sit or tumble. Live as if today was the last day of your life. Live life to the fullest and never let yourself fall into the trap of “what if” or “maybe someday.”…

What Are My Chances?

So I am going to be a lottery winner.  I'm just letting you know, in case I am gone for a while.  I wouldn't want you to worry about me.  But if I win, I will be taking a small break from my blog to make media appearances and shop like crazy.  I don't mean Bentley and Masserati shopping, but you can bet your ass, I will shop the SHIT out of Target.  I'll have them close the store for me, so I can shop without Target Mom and little…

One woman's dream: Hairdresser in Cameroon challenges status quo

Hailing from a humble background, Ms. Josephine Mbasso Ezoy has always been passionate about education. But early in life the chapter closed: at 14, she lost her father, and she was given for marriage.

With her basic education, Ms. Ezoy thought she would find solace in marriage, and maybe pursue her studies further. Unfortunately she was wrong. After more than eight years in an abusive marriage, she finally separated from her husband in 1999.

Although many years…
