Getting Steamy on the Shampoo Aisle
Yesterday my teenage daughters asked me for more shampoo and conditioner, and I said I’d pick some up at the grocery since I was on my way there.
They rolled their eyes and sighed because they “needed” the expensive stuff at Salon d’Fortune Geaux Au Revoir. According to my high school French, I’m pretty sure that means, “say goodbye to your money.”
“We want ‘Savage Smoothing Serum for Sexy Body' and ‘Hard Up and Slept In Moisture Geleé,’” they whined.
“Please. I used my…

Some Dreams Are Just To Bizarre To Explain
Sitting around with Matthew discussing prescription drug commercials and wondering about the various side-effects.
So many to choose from. How do the patients know which to select?
I mean, that's why they list them, right?
So you can go to your doctor and tell him which side-effect you would want. I think that is very thoughtful of the drug companies.…

When ADD Goes Into Hyper-drive
Another Sunday. Another day of rambling. This time it was me, in a state of over-tired delirium writing random thoughts onto my bulletin as they popped into my mind.
I began by taking notes during the sermon. Note? Yes. More like note. I only wrote one sentence before my train of thought was derailed and never quite got back on track.
You see, I had gotten to sleep at around midnight. I figured since we…

Some More of Those Random Thoughts
I’m watching one of those cheesy horror flicks. Well, not really watching it. I’m working on a prompt, keeping up with my Cafe World, and have the movie on for background noise. I can’t even tell you what the title is. The story line is a handful of college kids “break” into an abandoned building, get drunk, and the next morning they’re locked in. Of course, one by one, they’re disappearing and being tortured. Guess the building wasn’t so abandoned.
So why am I…

he Teenager Living Inside My Head
I say inappropriate things sometimes. But, I have a strong filter. Because I think inappropriate things all the time.
And I can't stop. The thought just pops up and I do my best not to gasp or giggle. I am convinced a part broke off inside me (even there I just thought of an inappropriate comment) during puberty and remained in my brain. Not proud of this. There's a teenager running wild inside my head.…

A Fun Fourth in My North Carolina Hometown

I started getting all sentimental as I ended my post about friendship after kids. I really am lucky to have some fantastic friends. Many of my girlfriends are ones I've had since I was young, and others I've met along the way. And while we've all become busy and wrapped up in our own lives, we still stay in touch as much as possible and try to be there for each other when it matters most.…

What Does a Crazy Rash Diagnosis Have to Do With Marriage?
Balance. It’s always been the strength in my marriage. While I quietly freak out with worry that my children need to be rushed to the emergency room, my husband calmly looks up from his reading fighting an eye roll and says, “Karen, it’s fine.”
While I submit my children to constant examination, poking, prodding, and “let me see it just one more time,” my husband checks out the Phillies’ score.
When I snuck away to Google a bull’s-eye rash that mysteriously appeared on my son…
