The NEW Jillian Hillcrest mystery Fair Disclosure by Joyce Strand reviewed today by 31 Days Early I Rise...

(Pre-order special $1 off - at Amazon!!
http://www.amazon.com/Fair-Disclosure-Jillilan-Hillcrest-Mystery/dp...)

"This story pulls you into the action right away with the attempted murder at the play’s opening night; and draws you deeper in as the clues continue to unfold revealing more danger and espionage in the business world. Jillian, her mother and Sheryl, the victims mother are in the middle of it all – so she has no choice but to aide in the investigation. You could say, lives depend upon it. Never mind that both mothers disappear! They’ve been doing a lot of detective work on their own.

Strands writing is smooth, enticing and involving. She pulls you into the story and even though there are multiple story lines in play, the reader is easily able to follow every one of them to completion. Being able to follow the emotions of characters is extremely important for success as a writer, and Strand does it. I feel a great tension between Detective Sherwood and Jillian and can’t wait for it to explode on a widescale platform. That will keep me coming back through the whole series."

Book Description

Jillian and ex-husband Chad are enjoying a play at a local community theater when a scream interrupts the production upon discovery of a bludgeoned volunteer. When it turns out that the victim is someone Jillian interviewed for a job at her company, she becomes involved in another crime, drawn ever deeper by a second murder, an irate investor, the participation of law enforcement amateurs, an increasingly unreliable assistant, and suspicious stock trading at her company. Meanwhile, Chad is pressuring Jillian to say “yes” to a second marriage.

About Jillian Hillcrest
Jillian Hillcrest is a PR Executive at a small biotechnology company in Silicon Valley who—through no fault of her own—gets drawn into solving murders.

Jillian grew up with her mother in a small town in Pennsylvania, although they moved to California when she was in middle school. Her mother now lives in southern California. Jillian never got to know her father, as he was killed in the Vietnam War. She got married right after graduating from Cal to Chad Bradbury, who is a marketing executive at a biotech company in Alameda, CA. They got divorced after 10 years of marriage, and, quite frankly, are not sure why. They still enjoy getting together. In particular, they enjoy going to restaurants and drinking wine.

As the head of corporate communications, Jillian is responsible for updating investors, employees, the media, partners, and the community about Harmonia and its products. You might wonder about the name of the 200-person company that develops drug products for autoimmune diseases. The founder compared balancing the human immune system with singing in harmony. In Greek mythology, Harmonia is the goddess of harmony and concord.

Book Review - Both Sides by Paul Stawski

Our Book Review
When I read the book description I just knew that this would be a book I would enjoy to read due to the unusual story line.  I am pleased to say the book exceeded my expectations and I was gripped from page one.

Two girls, Alex and Sandra, from the opposite end of the social spectrum are involved in a tragic accident on a school trip, one girl is left brain damaged the other is left with a shattered and broken body.  Do the surgeons leave both girls to die or do they transplant the healthy brain from one girl into the healthy body of the other.  This is where the numerous 'what if' questions started as I asked myself throughout the book how I would feel, who would this patient now be, who would now be her parents, how this would affect family and friends and that's even before the whole ethics of the issue.

An absolutely fabulous read from such a talented author as he brings the whole story to you through the eyes of Alex as she lay both in her coma as well as her recovery efforts. You could feel Alex's sheer panic and terror as she is aware of all the goings on around her, feeling like she doesn't exist as everyone else makes decisions on her behalf.  The feel of disgust being inside a body that she cannot bear to be in, her life that she took for granted will never be the same again.

As you read the book it becomes very clear that a lot of research has been done by the author for a story that will inevitably bring questions, discussions and debates to anyone who reads it as well as opening it up to those around them.  I do have to include that I would absolutely love to take the virtual therapy that Alex undertook, to escape from the world into another place, how wonderful that would be.

A highly recommended thought provoking read as you feel as you are there besides Alex as she struggles to come to terms with all that she has lost and what she now has become.  I cannot wait to read the next book to see how the author will carry the story on for Alex and all those affected by the tragedy.

Interview ‘Both Sides’ Author – Paul E. Stawski plus book review!

bothsides

Imagine if you were in a tragic accident – unable to move or speak but otherwise cognizant of everything around you. Imagine hearing doctors deciding your fate without you having a voice in the outcome.

Alex is a 16-year-old girl who finds herself in that exact situation in Both Sides, a novel that begins when – while on a class field trip – Alex and another girl, Sandra, end up in a horrible accident.

If the doctors act quickly, they may be able to save one body…and one brain. Amid the confusion and uncertainty, we hear everything that’s going on in Alex’s mind – from her initial disbelief to her quips about the absurdity of it all to her realization that she may have to go through the rest of her life living in the body of a girl she couldn’t stand. If she survives.

Both Sides tackles these issues and more. Within its pages every reader will find her own answers and discover, in the end, a story of courage and a girl who never before existed.

Award-winning author Paul E. Stawski captures the minute-by-minute struggles of a 16-year-old girl whose world is suddenly turned upside down in Both Sides. Radical brain surgery is the only option. Time is running out and Alex’s mind is racing: will she still be the same person when she comes out on the other side?

My Thoughts

Through the Fates she walks. She has no choice in the matter. Alex has a dying body, and Sandra’s brain is no longer functioning. As the time closes in to connect Alex’s mind to Sandra’s body, we are vividly given a window to see inside the fear, confusion and courage of this trapped mind. Paul E. Stawski clearly sets a trap for the reader. I was trapped in Alex’s mind. Overwhelmed to a point my heart beat wildly, my stomach clenched as she  clashes with her need to survive and her distress of who she may become in the end. I promise, if you read ‘Both Sides’, you will ‘FEEL’ this story.

I was so impressed how the author took you into a young girls mind, that when I had an opportunity to interview Paul, I jumped! You can read my interview HERE, and get a little insight into the workings of his mind!

Find out how author, Paul E Stawski, made Both Sides seem so realistic and what was the hardest scene he had to write from the book and so much more by readingEspacular Aiesa's author interview?

Book Review - Not For Profit by Glenn Shepard

A prominent surgeon accused of murder and terrorism ...
A corrupt healthcare administrator hell-bent on bloody revenge...
A mysterious seductress whose secrets could free the doctor and kill thousands ...
A terrorist cell with missiles aimed at a leading hospital in America’s Bible Belt ...
Not for Profit takes you on an action-packed thrill ride that will have you questioning suspects, motives, and outcomes until the very last page.
Renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Scott James is charged with murder after two bodies are found at his surgery center. Just weeks before the start of his capital murder trial, Dr. James is approached by a beautiful woman claiming she can help him gain information that would prove his innocence.
As James hunts down the evidence that might free him, he faces a barrage of threats to his life and liberty—and makes one chilling discovery after another: Corporate corruption. A conspiracy to frame him for murder and for terrorist acts. A secret drone-control operation that takes out targets in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The true identity and intent of his beautiful ally. And a plot to blow up the local hospital and surrounding community.
Our Book Review
A interesting story encompassing two causes which are drawn together in very strange circumstances.

The author uses his experiences to write a thriller which keeps the reader involved on every page .The use of the language and short paragraphs detailing the main characters movements make it a very easy read to follow and enjoy.

You become involved in the story and feel the emotions that our hero is suffering and have to admire his courage and bravery in the fight to prove his innocence and to restore his reputation .

In every book I read I try and find or see a message or point of view the writer is trying to make.  In this book I think the message is do we know who is really protecting or looking after us? Also where does the real threat to our life's come from?.

A renown doctor is accused of murder and at the same time a terrorist group are threatening to attack.  In the course of proving his innocence his investigation and leads draw the two together.

Overall an exciting page turning thriller with up to date threats which could happen or effect anyone . The author has used his knowledge in both the medical and the army profession to produce a noteworthy story which will be enjoyed by many.

It was a pleasure to be asked to review this novel and I wish the author all the best for future publications, and hope to be on his mailing list.
