Curse The Moon Cold War Rising by Author Lee Jackson 'If I could give this book higher then a 5 I would--it deserves a 10 in my opinion.' reviews Miki's Hope

"This is one book I am not likely to ever forget. I finally read the truth about Cuba, the Bay of Pigs and the rise of Fidel Castro. It was at a time when Gorbachev was the head of the USSR and Ronald Reagan was President. It was a frightening time in the history books and the Cuban people took the brunt of the trouble. They came to Miami in droves and are still to this day trying to liberate their home land from oppression.

According to the front page of the book along with publisher information etc this is written:

"Many of the episodes described in this novel were based on actual events, particularly those in the story that take place in Cuba.
The views expressed in this novel are not necessarily those of the United States Military Academy, the US Army, or the United States Government.
This is a work of fiction. The main character, Atcho, and his daughter, Isabel, are based on the author’s family members. All other characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental."

This is the story of a brave and courageous man who wanted nothing more then to find his daughter and then keep her safe! Only the moon truly witnessed all.

If I could give this book higher then a 5 I would--it deserves a 10 in my opinion. There is another book in this series which I will be grabbing as soon as it is published!!"

Book #2 The Remingtons, Love in Bloom Series #11

"You should watch out! Melissa Foster has a vivid talented writing skill. She creates a world within the readers mind. You are struck how her family of stories becomes yours. ‘Stroke of Love’ is another journey thru the authors family of stories and into the lives of Kate Parello and Sage Remington. Sage is not your normal egotistical artist, which comes as a shock to Kate. He is much more than she expects when he volunteers for Artist for International Aid. Working in a remote village, there is much more heat going on here than the jungle normally provides. Even though Kate tries to keep her guard up, she slowly lets this unique man closer…. will she let herself be loved? Hmmmmm"

Beck Valley Books ‪#‎book‬ review On The Inside by Kim Cano 'an extremely easy 5***** review'

I was intrigued and looking forward to reading this book as it's not the normal story line I tend to read, what a sheer delight this story was, I truly didn't expect it to grab my attention the way it did.  Every single spare moment I had found me picking up the book to to read more and follow the characters story, I loved it.
The authors superb writing led me quickly and easily into connecting with the characters in the story. The main character is Kristen, a mother of two boys, frustrated with her life turned to drink and started to steal money from the family firm she worked for.  At first she stole small amounts but eventually led to stealing a total of half a million dollars with the end result being sentanced for 17 years in a woman's prison.  The only thing that kept her going at the beginning was the kind and loving letters she receives from her sister-in-law Olivia keeping her up to date on the life outside, her sons were both too young, her husband too angry and her parents simply too busy.  Kristin starts to realise what she has lost and you follow her emotional growth of character through her activities inside and her bond with the other cellmates.
Each cellmate has their own storyline that I strangely found myself understanding why they had found their way behind bars, my general view tends to be that people in prison are there because they deserve to be without giving a second thought about the background of their crime, this certainly made my question that. I loved each and every character and the interactions and stories that followed them, reading about the emotions that prisoners have and the sadness when they lose their cellmates.  I find myself wanting to say so much more about them but that would really spoil the whole book for you to read and enjoy yourself.
One character I really liked to read about was Lakeisha, a prison officer who spent her days sorting through the inmates mail, checking for any contraband, as she merrily enjoys reading about the soap opera of the inmates lives and how she gets emotionally connected herself.
There was plenty of emotion in the story, some heartbreak, some 'oh no' moments and some joyful times. Some intimate scenes are also included in the story for those that may be offended.  I have to be honest and say that I actually held off reading the last three chapters of the book because I simply did not want the book to end, that was just how much I was enjoying it.   Eventually Kristin's sentence comes to an end and I found a couple of happy tears in my eyes reading the end of book.
Kim Cano is a truly talented author that I will absolutely be following from now on. I applaud her for her bravery on tackling the subject so close to her heart, based on her own family tragedy and find myself wondering if she knows just how much of a difference she is making to her sister in laws life.

Book Review - The Long Goodbye by James Robinson Jr, Johnson Family Chronicles, Book 2

Our Book Review
This was a great light hearted read that made me chuckle right from the beginning as it follows the antics of a family attending a close friends wedding.

The story centres around Samuel and his wife Tabitha, Samuel's parents Maxine and Samuel Snr, not forgetting about good old Uncle Ray.  I'm sure every family must have an Uncle Ray with his loud, life and soul of the party ways.  The wedding they are attending is for the daughter of Maxine's closest friend Gail. Although there is already tension in the air before the wedding has even started as the previous wedding they attended for Gail's other daughter ended up with the bride running off with her lover before the 'I do' part.

All in not well behind the scenes of this family trip though as feelings of sadness, lack of love and affection is multiplied by drink, leading to crazy events and creating temptation.

I loved the humor throughout the story, well what I took as humor, maybe I was just enjoying the book too much!   The author's writing had the story flowing really well, it was down to earth almost familiar in some areas in the way families engage and react to each other.

There are some swear words in the story that I did feel were unnecessary but it didn't really affect the overall read.

A quick, enjoyable read that was a great tonic, I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. I feel that there is much more to come with this family.  Looking forward to reading more from this author.

The Long Goodbye by James J. Robinson, Jr. 'a real life situation that unfolded with some great writing' reviews My Side Of Life

"I enjoyed The Long Goodbye! This was my first time reading a book by James Robinson, I'll have to catch up with book one but I truly enjoyed this one. Loved that everything was so down to earth, realistic and believable, which made it even more fun to read. This was a real life situation that unfolded with some great writing, I enjoyed wondering how it would end up.

We follow Samuel and Tabitha the happy couple and some real life drama unfolding before them. When temptation comes along for Samuel to a woman half his age, things start to get a bit rocky. His sights are on the maid of honor who isn't in the least hiding her interest right back, the wife? She notices what's going on and tries to gain Samuel's attention back on her but that seems to have the wrong outcome she'd hoped for. It stirs up a lot of questions, on what the furture will hold.

What happens when being married for so long has lost it's spark and fire? Throw it all away for a little fun or joy ride? Or try to rekindle what has been there all along? Will the family tear apart as trouble stirs, or will they be able to come together with full support? It's a crazy roller coaster of a wedding to say the least and the truth will come out in the end.

You'll laugh, you may cry, but you will enjoy following the journey of Samuel and Tabitha and this crazy family wedding, leaving you hoping that Love really is timeless."
