When you award +K to people, do you use the automated Share buttons from inside Klout to thank people?
If so, be aware of a change that Klout has just made to how the tweets are processed!
It used to be that the tweet thanked the person by including the Twitter handle of the person who assigned you Klout (this is GOOD).
Now they have changed it so they are NOT including the Twitter handle - instead, they are directly pulling the person's name from the Twitter account and putting it there (so, if you blog anonymously and your blog and twitter handle is @Luv2blog - but you signed your name on your Klout account as Mary Sue User - Mary Sue User is going to appear in the thank you tweet, NOT @Luv2blog as was previously done!
If privacy is a concern of yours, I encourage you to contact Klout about this to protest the change (I sent them several tweets tonite) and in the meantime, update your account so your personal details are not inadvertently leaked.
Also - I encourage all of you, when tweeting, to take the time to put in the person's handle and/or to use the name they are blogging/tweeting under as you never know what problems this could cause.
I discovered this because I went to thank someone and I noticed her name was there, not her blog handle. I will be letting her know & I encourage you all to do the same if you come across a situation like this. :-)
Hi Chelle,
Think of a hashtag as the category under which you are tweeting. If you were going to classify your tweet - or look it up in an index - how would you search for it?
If you were tweeting about a giveaway, you might search for #Giveaways, #Contests, #Prizes, #Win, or #Free for example. For your inspirational quotes, you might try #Quotes, #Quotations, #inspiration, #sayings, #famoussayings.
Now, when you search for your hashtag (do hashtag research BEFORE posting) - read what comes up and see if you like the results. If you do - mark it for future reference - if not - don't use it. For example, I currently have a recipe on my blog - Risotto with Smoked Gouda, Parmesan, & Cranberries. When I did my hashtag research, one of the hashtags I researched was #Cranberries. What I found was it did NOT pull up the food, cranberries - it pulled up the musical group! So, I did not use it when I tweeted my recipe.
The other thing - when you research a hashtag and you look thru the results and find relevant tweets - see what OTHER related hashtags are being used by those people.
When you are done, you should have a list of possible hashtags to use for your tweets. (Since this is a lot of work, you probably aren't going to do this for every single tweet - rather you are going to use this for the main categories of stuff you are tweeting that are relevant to your blog - which in turn are the topics you hope to gain Klout in). I started to keep a log of the hashtags I use over and over again for the categories of posts I blog regularly about. And - now that I am learning more how Klout works - I think I am going to start to refine my hashtags even further and start to focus on the topics I am actually interested in being recognized for on my Klout list to see over time how that impacts things.
P.S. Klout scores are updated daily - BUT - Klout Topics are updated weekly - I believe mine changed last Sunday night going into Monday morning - so if you start working on a few categories and let us know - we can respond to your Tweets and help you build Klout faster in those categories! :-)
Comment by Chelle on September 16, 2011 at 6:28pm I know I fall into that category. I just looked at my list of topics and don't have any listed. I tend to RT mostly positive, inspirational quotes, giveaways by others, so on.
The concept of hashtags is still very new to me and I'm not really sure if I understand it but I will be trying to learn more about it.
"I don't believe it's possible to +K someone if they don't have topics - I came across that situation the other day. My suggestion to someone in that situation would be to start using hashtags when they tweet (hashtags are # plus topic if you are new - if you go to the search box up top, you can key in your topic of interest to make sure it actually exists!)"
Thanks for that great info Create with Joy!
That's what I was afraid of re +K's and no topics.
I have pretty much ignored hashtags except for a few items, and I think you're right because those show up as my most influencial. Very interesting! You better believe I'm going to turn into a hashtag queen!
