The Wisher’s Well by Bhavna K.

Is taking a break before University a good Idea? Was their location right for them? Could they live the moment with ease or did the sensation of regret unveil a dark secret?

Each country picked randomly is just like craving for a boon from a wish well, which may or may not be fulfilled. Dive into a thought and make a wish. Which destination you choose is a secret that promises you a miraculous experience.

Four compassionate and aspirant teenagers,’ Yuna Lee, Joben Saito, Alec Burley and Amporn Srisai decide to travel for two weeks to four countries in Southeast Asia. They don’t know which country they will travel to.  Each of them makes a wish.

It’s a gamble and they pick up a chit randomly, just like opening a fortune cookie.  The fortune cookie may bring them to tinsel town or may tickle the spirits for a reality check. It’s fascinating to know which country brings a new story and what each teenager discovers from traveling to that country.

Book Review - Hazardous Material by Kurt Kamm

Our Book Review
This is the second book I have read by this author, the first being Code Blood which was first rate, the sign of a great author is making the novels fresh and different whilst entertaining the reader.

The writer gives a really good synopsis of his past life and where he draws and uses his inspirations from. This really shines through and by using real people and events with no soft soap you can relate to the situations and the experiences in which the main character is facing and feeling.

The story revolves around Bucky Dawson who is determined to find out what happened to his dead sister and along the way brings him into contact with two rival motorcycle gangs and a world of drug taking, which endangers his own life.

The aspects and ways of the motorcycle gangs are expertly described with hard hitting and gritty facts with startling results again are testimony to the authors research and knowledge.

What makes the difference in a book or novel for myself is the message that the writer is trying to portray or get across.  I think in the message here is that everyone has a different way of coping or getting through the day whether its being a member of a gang which gives you security and comradeship or by taking certain pills to help-you survive.  The story also makes you really think about what action you would actually follow if someone hurt a member of your family, what lengths would you go to find out the truth?

The author is one that I am now following and hopefully will get a chance to read further works because his writing is down to earth, close to the heart and involves real life situations.

Our Beck Valley Books review of Have No Shame by Melissa Foster has just been posted, here is a snippet.....

"The book will have you hooked as you follow the tense rollercoaster story and the shocking and chaotic civil right era along with the sympathisers who help to try and make it a fairer and safer place to live for everyone.

This is quite a powerful and emotional story that at times made me feel pain, sadness and even anger at the way life was so different then and how people were treated so horrendously. Yet the story is written in such a wonderful way that there is also so much beauty, love and respect that it will really pull on your heart. I felt myself wanting to shout out to Alison but had to remind myself that her world was completely different to the world we now take for granted and decisions could not be taken at will.

Truly a highly recommended emotive read that won't just leave you after you have turned the last page. It will certainly leave you wanting more and I cannot wait to read much more from this author."

JUST RELEASED .......

DESOLATION by Travis Simmons

I have never been into the Zombies . I'm not one for scary movies and until Desolation I had never read a Zombie book.  So, I was curious where this author would take me.  The imagination, the thrill and the suspense in Desolation had me reading it in just a few hours.  Seriously I was shocked when I put it down finished .
A virus that turns you into a Zombie. (scary stuff and in Desolation it seems so real)  There is the refuge where those that survive can hide . Then there is  the necromancers who can make the zombies do as they say. (pretty cool although not everyone thinks so) This book is action packed  right from page one.
Each character gives something to the story development. Each having their own awful story of what happened in the past and each offering something in the struggles for the future outcome.  Desolation  was a winner in my book I"d definitely pick up another from author Travis Simmons.

This book was a brutal reality to what it is like to battle an addiction to pain killers. I have to say that there have been people in my own life that have battled with this very addiction and it can lead to something even worse. The honesty in this book was something that took me by surprise because a lot of people do not like to recognize pain killers as being an addiction or something that needs attention. This book was a deep insight into the nasty world that is out there.

I love books with mystery and a little bit of crime to them. My favorite author of all time is James Patterson and this book hinted a little bit to his style of writing with the darkness that I have grown to love. Most women are into the sappy love story but I love a good dark story every now and again.

This book was not disappointing to say the least and although it was meant more for male readers, in my opinion, I would recommend it to anyone!! This is not a light hearted comedy. It has no gush to it. Like I said before it does a great job in describing the underlying hazards that people do not know about when it comes to drug use. There are many people that get addicted to pain meds that they are prescribed in the first place to help with pain. To get off of these sometimes is hard. My cousin is fighting a disease and has to be on pain killers every day. He has sort of, in a sense, become addicted to them. I know that he could not live without them physically.

Motorcycle gangs are something that I know absolutely nothing about, but the author did a great job describing what goes on in them from an outsider’s perspective. There are many types of twists throughout this whole book and I was definitely not right half the time for what I thought was about to happen.

This was an intense story that was an in-depth read into a terrible situation that is going on in this country. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone to give it a try, but especially to the male reader base out there that does not like all the sap. I would give this a four out of five for a rating because I was intrigued all the way through!
