Our Beck Valley Books Review of Eighty and Out by Kim Cano
"As with all of Kim Cano's books that I have read, you become mesmerized by the story, the characters come to life somehow making a special bond with the reader, you instantly feel connected to them. This is a beautiful, gentle story of coming of age, love, loss, despair and happiness,

The story follows two sisters, Lou and Jeannie, along with Lou's best friend Bernice. They found themselves growing up in the racial hate timeline which was harsh and choosing whether to follow the pressure groups or your own heart and beliefs is a choice that they must make. Another choice the sisters made together was never to allow themselves to live past 80, to end up as their poor Aunt Violet has, living in a nursing home with her full life withering away to frailty.

As they grow through school, college and beyond their friendships grow, relationships start with the innocence of first love and dreams of their futures are created. But do they allow their hearts to win over their minds and follow their dreams ? Do they stick to their childhood sisterly pact?

There is always a lovely tone when reading this author's work, the light humor to this one made me smile from the things the parents said to the kids themselves and the way their minds work. Although I felt the emotional highs, I also felt the tremendous lows and the story line definitely pulled at my heartstrings with some of the sadness. I have to admit though at one part of the book I did shout out with anger, but I'm not telling you why!

I loved the close bonds of friendship and the sisterly love within the story. I also loved that the story highlighted that life is precious and love is what keeps life moving on even in those hard times."

For Love or Money by Kathy DiSanto is reviewed by Miki's Hope....

"If this book doesn't have you laughing out loud I don't know what will!
Jen Casey who is now a high school English teacher in the same school she went to-she loves poetry and literature-she was even the president of the poetry club in high school. She really is a small town girl who is waiting for Mr. Right before she gets involved. Her friend--the phys ed teacher is just about her opposite. She should have kept her mouth shut when she saw that a boy she went to high school with but whose family had come into money was really living it up. Now here is this woman--knows little to nothing about men but thinks she can tell him a thing or two? Her friend gets her to email Celebrity news--on a dare. You see Jen has one little bitsy flaw--she can not resist a dare!! Instead of forwarding the email--Celebrity publishes it!!! That's when the fun begins.

I can't tell you anymore or I will give it up-and we all know I won't do that!! To find out what happens you will just have to pick up this book and read it. And for those of you wondering--yes, I think it would be fine for teens to read this one-after you have read it of course. By the way have some tissues ready at the end--you will need them!"

Booker: Hate City by John W. Mefford | Author (Booker #3) plus Kindle Paperwhite Giveaway Manic Mama of 3 reviews....

"I am absolutely in love with this series! I am a huge Alex Cross fan by James Patterson. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would find anything that would compare to the suspense and feelings that I got from those books, but John Mefford has stolen my heart.

Booker is now working on a case that involves JFK assassination memorabilia. He then gets offered the case of a murder. The person murdered is very well known and when a SECOND murder occurs is when Booker uses his wit and smarts to connect the two of them. Enter Maggie Calero, a private investigator. There will be no more victims on Booker’s watch. He always is so swift with his cases and manages to have a life outside of them. John Mefford makes Maggie super likeable and as an author he won my heart strings even more when he referenced Melissa Foster, another author addiction.

This book and the series are absolutely amazing and addicting. I am so happy that there are going to be six (and a half) novels in this series because I can’t get enough!"

'a super fun and humorous addition to the series with a genuine whodunit mystery, and sizzling hot romance' reviews Julie Whiteley @ The Book Review on NEW Revenge in Paradise by Deborah Brown - Paradise Series......

"This latest book in the series was one of the lightest installments to this point with Madison really feeling her oats as she leaves the uncertainty about her personal and romantic life in the past, and moves forward into a very stable, at least by Madison's standards, relationship with her mother, her best friend and her new lover. But, as usual there is still a lot of trouble in Paradise and Madison and Fab at the center of all the action.

When there is a death involving residents of the Cottages, a woman is falsely accused of murder. Fab and Madison are on the case determined to find out what really happened. Along the way the dynamic duo do a few jobs for Brick, and lands a more legitimate case too, which I think means the ladies are starting to build up a reputable clientele. But, before they can get too spit and polished, Madison spends some time in jail, has a few tense run ins with her ex-boyfriend, goes on drunken binge which was out right hilarious, and endures a few family dramas. Business as usual in paradise.

I loved how Madison's character has grown over the course of this series. Thank goodness Zach is out of her life, and she has Creole. I agree with Fab about being on “Team Creole”... In fact, I think the sexy Creole makes a pretty good book boyfriend. The murder mystery was puzzling and the conclusion was tense and shocking.

Overall, this was a super fun and humorous addition to the series with a genuine whodunit mystery, and sizzling hot romance. It's always a pleasure to touch base with these characters but I was especially satisfied with the way things went in this latest caper. This one earns 5 stars! "

' Kim Cano is one of the great writers of our time who will make you feel and think, laugh and cry and in the end nod your head in agreement.' reviews Miki's Hope after reading Eight and Out.....

"If you have ever had to visit a relative in a nursing home you will be able to understand why these two sisters made a pact to die by the age of eighty. I watched my Grandmother in one with advanced dementia and I actually worked in a couple of nursing homes over the years in their accounting departments. It is not easy watching these once vibrant people slowly deteriorate. I more or less made myself the same promise all those years ago.

Of course life never ever goes totally smooth as we all know and love comes and goes. You meet someone and you know that he or she is the one--but then the summer or vacation is over and you have to go back. It is even worse when the love of your life goes into the army and is deemed missing in action. This is what happens to Jeanette--so she eventually gets married--

Fate plays a large part in this novel as does the love between sisters and family. Kim Cano is one of the great writers of our time who will make you feel and think, laugh and cry and in the end nod your head in agreement."
