This weeks Blog Talk topic is all about gaining followers and meeting new bloggers!
This weeks discussion is a 2 part question:
1) We would love to hear your tips on how you have gained followers on your blog. What has worked what hasn't?
2) Also readers vs. followers, does it matter to you? Many bloggers want more followers, most followers don't always end up becoming readers of a blog- what's your take? Is it important to have readers that actively follow your blog or are you just looking to gain followers in general?

I have found that my blog has grown when I've tried to make GENUINE connections with other bloggers in my niche. People (bloggers!) are really kind and when you offer a helping hand to them, they typically reciprocate with retweets, will like you on Facebook or comment on your blog. In this respect, the blogosphere is like real life, if you're nice people will want to be around you and see you succeed (not always, but sometimes!)
I also found that participating in groups and forums like this has been a tremendous help. I don't favor HUGE groups with thousands upon thousands of members, for me, it's hard to connect with people on a personal level and there's just too much going on. Find networking groups, forums or directories that aren't too big yet and submit your info. My biggest supporters have been bloggers because when a friendship's established, they'll share their readership with you!
Well, I LOVE my readers. They make my life! But honestly, I want to be able to earn a wee bit of money to at least cover hosting/domain costs or feed my pug so the followers and other metrics definitely help in that goal! With having more followers/traffic I am more marketable to advertisers and get a smidge more revenue.
I wouldn't trade my fab readers for the world, but sometimes having followers to make me look good to potential business is nice too! ;)

Really great answer. I am very new to blogging. I have been blogging for three weeks. I have been connecting with other bloggers on this site, book blogs and goodreads. I have been linking to facebook. But I think the best way is to comment on other blogs and link up with other sites. For Example my latest post is on a book review about witches (White Witch Pond by Jody Kihara) and I linked to Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf who has a witch book reading contest going on. So far I have 19 followers. This is a hobbie so it is all fun.

It's not much of quantity but quality.
Writing contents that provide values helps a lots. Being genuine will attract readers although sometimes it takes more time.
I myself follow a strategy where I blog alternate days, on days I do not blog, i comments on forums and blogs to network with other bloggers.
Keep up the good work Crissa.
Cheers
Mike
Permalink Reply by Emma S on September 14, 2011 at 4:06pm I've got followers through being a member of sites like this one, blog hops and just general networking ... but I've still got only a little over 50 followers, and feel as if I'm stuck in a rut. I feel as if I need to reach out to more people, because clearly the people who want to follow me from the hops/forums I already participate in already follow me. I just don't know how to get myself more exposure now!
