This week's Blog Talk topic is Blog Style and Design so I thought it would be great to share what ,if anything, we would like to change about our own blogs!
I often wonder if I am the only one who can't stop obsessing about the things I'd like to change on my blog- I can never seem to be content so I would love to hear your thoughts!
If you would like to list more than one thing feel free because my list may go on forever!
I like to joke that my blog will forever be a constant work in progress. I think the problem with being a blog designer is good enough is never good enough- I think I'm on my 4th design in just over a year and I've been going crazy thinking about how badly I wan't to change it- ALL of it- AGAIN! The problem is, I just don't have the time. It will be more than a month long project and there is just no way. Anyways, here is what I would like to change:
The colors, I want to go softer
The overall design concept- I'd like to go more elegant
My sidebar quicklinks, I'd like to give them all a really cute hover effect
Nav Bar, definitely needs a bit more style
Just to name a few!
Basically, I want to change everything!

I would like to change
my title header - it is too plain
links - so that they open in another window and don't take visitors away from my page (not able to on Blogger)
Add a rating system - tried it once but it was too small to be legible

Permalink Reply by Delaney on July 26, 2011 at 8:30am Great topic - I think you're right and that a blog is always a work in progress as styles and your personal tastes evolve.
I would really like to have working buttons that allow readers to share a post on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Supposedly I can do this through Blogger but it's not working for me.
I would also like to have a more organized and consistent looking sidebar.

Permalink Reply by Delaney on July 31, 2011 at 7:51am I definitely want to change my look. I think it's cute right now, but it doesn't exactly fit my personality or style I want to go with. I want something more elegant, using a very cool vintage bicycle logo that I'm developing. But, I just haven't had the time to get to it yet. It will definitely happen someday, though.
Permalink Reply by Emily Murray on July 31, 2011 at 11:23pm Carol, you can have links open in a different window on Blogger but you have to be able to adjust the code of the link so in posts or if it's an image in the sidebat don't use the picture widget use html and enter the code then do this:
add target="blank" inside the a=href tag
So it would look like this:
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i907.photobucket.com/"/></a>
So, if you link a word in a blogger post just click on edit html and add that. They use to allow you to choose from the link box maybe that changed but you can go in and edit html.
Hope that helps!

Permalink Reply by Emily Murray on July 31, 2011 at 11:26pm Well, if you did it yourself you could always take the custom design and switch back but I know how hard that can be!
Maybe you could ask the designer you won it from if you could offer it as a giveaway on your blog since you just re-did yours. It doesn't change anything for the designer they still have to do a blog so why not give it away to someone who needs it! I had someone do that once, they won a design from a list of things but didn't need a design because they just got one so she gave the package as a giveaway on her blog.

I'm not sure what I would change. I just got finished redoing my blog myself, & come to find out I just won a professional custom design. Currently, I like the design the way it is, but of course I love new designs!
