OK, everything I had to say is in the discussion title. Some of you guys have 500+ 1000+ followers. How? And some have advertising it seems. Can you earn money with this? I am completely ignorant. Thanks for any clues.

Permalink Reply by Emily Murray on July 13, 2011 at 9:04pm I agree with Delaney, blog hops are a great way to get new followers! I think my greatest jump in followers was with my first giveaway! You can get a lot of new followers by hosting a giveaway!
As for "can you earn money" this depends. Some people make a lot of money blogging from ads, affiliate programs, ad space and other ways. I think it depends a lot on how much traffic you have on your blog. People are not going to pay for ad space if on a low traffic blog, likewise a blog will not get many Adsense clicks if not many people visit the site. I have around 800 followers, not a lot by any means compared to some who have well over one and two thousand followers but I am am only now just thinking about offering ad space. I have looked at the traffic of other blogs who offer ad spaces and I think I have finally reached a good flow of traffic so I am going to give it a go!
Thanks Emily and Delaney,
I have just started on some blog hops but I think I overdid them and then didn't have the time or energy to correspond with a log of the others. I always overdo everything.

I'm fairly new to blogging myself. I have a huge giveaway on my blog with several great prizes from several great sponsors. I've had 8591 page views in the last 30 days and still don't have many followers. I won't chose winners for the giveaway until I reach 5,000 fans on my FB page. I thought it would be easy to get there having the giveaway, but boy I was wrong! The giveaway started when the page hit 3,000 and ends at 5,000 and we're just over 3400 now. If any of you ladies know what I can do to increase followers, please help a girl out. All my contact info is on my page here at Blogaholics. Thanks, and I'll check out the info you posted, Meagan!

Permalink Reply by Delaney on July 23, 2011 at 12:44pm Its very frustrating trying to gain followers. I'm fairly new at blogging and its A LOT of work. Blog hops, maintaining relationships, commenting, guest blogging... its a never ending list. What I've learned so far is that if you have a steady flow of posts and your active online you'll have followers in no time. With that being said I need to follow my own advice :)
Permalink Reply by ninthstreetnotions on July 23, 2011 at 4:04pm It definitely is a lot of work. But for me, it's something I enjoy. I love networking - checking out others' blogs, providing heartfelt and meaningful comments (don't just do the "I'm following you. Follow me back." How lame.), and learning all sorts of fun new skills.
The key is working first at your own content, I think. Then pretty soon people are reading because what you're writing is interesting. After that, people ask to be featured on your site with an ad or a giveaway. Or when you ask if someone's interested, they jump on it.
It seems cliche, but write what you enjoy, visit others who like the same things, comment, blog hop, and the rest will come.
Permalink Reply by Shannon Miller on July 23, 2011 at 11:12pm The couponing pages on FB help each other and do shout outs (tag one another's pages and send fans). I just posted on my wall asking if anyone wanted to sponsor our giveaway and emailed some other couponing page owners and asked. I had been a sponsor for one or two of them in the past. We all work together to help, it's great!
Thanks, I'd appreciate you passing word around! The name of the blog is Sassy Saving Moms. FB page is The Sassy Savers. My links are on on my profile. :)

Permalink Reply by Cynthia Helwig on June 17, 2012 at 8:38am I've been blogging for well over 3 years and started it primarily to build an audience for when I became a published author. Write good CONTENT, they will come. That's the Number 1 key! My blog is receiving more than 15,000 unique visits a month now and it's based on the articles I write and the keywords I label. I leave the money making to Adsense mostly and a few choice affiliates I like myself, nothing else. I'm drawing in around $100 per month. I've tried affiliate marketing with LinkShare, Commission Junction and others ... it truly doesn't work. Adsense does based on the numbers, but you have to get there. Women aren't interested in advertising (unless it's captivating), they're interested in the uniqueness of what you have to offer. Too much advertising, takes away from the look and flow of your blog. Once a blog hop/tour is over, remove the button. I've seen blogs with countless buttons and it takes away from the attractiveness. Blog Hops/Tours are great for discovering something new & unique. But the key to a successful blog, is drawing traffic, not just Followers to build up your numbers but attracting new subscribers and visitors who love what you offer and will come back time again.
