I am just starting with advertising other peoples businesses on my blog and I am not sure how much to charge and how it all works.  I guess I just need advise on the best way to handle it all.

I would be happy with any advice you have on the subject

Thank you

I have the same exact questions! I'm new to blogging {only been doing it for about 1 month} so I'm not sure if I should try to grow my blog first, then offer advertising...??? So confused.

I suggest growing and then adverting for sure. You have to think if your traffic stats are low and you don't have that many followers yet a prospective advertiser is not going to pay if they feel they will not get any publicity. At least, that's what I think. I say that because I have been on both ends offering ad space and seeking ad space. I always go for blogs with high stat counts as I'm sure many others do so I can get the most publicity for my money.

For example, let's say you have 200 followers and get 2,000 pageviews a month and you offer ads for $10.00 a month then another blog has 1000 followers and 30,000 pageviews a month for the same price. An advertiser is going to go with what is going to bring them the most traffic, the second option!

I'd love to hear what others think about this!

Your blog is really cute Lacee, you have a good sense of style and it's a clean layout so when you do offer ads I'm sure people will be all over it- especially some fab Etsy gals! But, I do suggest waiting.

I know I waited over a year, I would of done it a few months ago but just did not have the time!

Hi Margaret,

I also just started offering ad space on my blog. This is what I did:

I looked for comparable sites to scope out the going rate. I then took at look at my blog stats, followers, Twitter and Facebook fans, and readers who subscribe via RSS. You have to look at what you have to offer and base your price on that.

I know that last month I had over 42,000 pageviews I am still gathering all my other info but based on that alone I have decided to sell ads for $10.00-$20.00 depending on size. I have found that $10.00 seems about an average rate give or take.

It's a good idea to offer different size ads this will account for different sized budgets!

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much Emily. This was SO helpful. I, too, agree with waiting till I get more established and figure out what the heck I'm doing...haha!

So Lacee, I am trying to figure out, where would this advertising be hosted, would it be on your Blog? Let me know, thanks, Karren

Hi Karren.

Yes, on my blog in the from of an ad space button in my side bar that would link directly to the advertisers website.

Hi, erm this is such a ditzy question but how do you gather your blog stats?

Do you just use the stats function in blogger??

Thanks for all the helpful info in this thread btw :)

I suppose you could use either Analytics or Blogger stats. I use Google Analytics because I have a lot of sub domains and it tracks everything together. Plus, I used it long before Blogger came out with stats so I'm just use to it!
